本族はPlacusa Erichson属及びEuvira Sharp属を基にしてAshe (1991)が設立した．旧北区からはPlacusa属の2亜属25種が知られている(Smetana, 2004)．その後はKirtusa Pace, 2008属が追加され，世界から3属が知られていることになる．

族の特徴 (Ashe, 1991; Klimaszewski et al., 2001による): 触角末端節は裁断状か前方に向かって広く丸まり，強く突出しない．下唇(labium)の前縁は丸い．咽喉板縫合線(gular sutures)は並行に近く，両者は広く離れる．附節式：4-4-5．大あご表面（背面）にビロード状構造が見られる．舌 (ligula)はニ叉せず，短く，先端部は広めに丸まる．下唇髭(labial palpi)は短く2節．小顎髭(maxillary palpi)は4節．
